Tim Hicks Honours Late Bandmate With Tribute Song
Country artist Tim Hicks shares one of his most personal songs to date with the release of “I’m Not Ready”, available today. Written in honour of his longtime bass player and bandmate, Doug Elash, who passed away unexpectedly last year, the track offers a raw and heartfelt reflection on grief, love, and the lasting impact of losing someone close.
Doug was more than just a member of the band, he was family. His energy and presence were at the heart of Hicks’ live shows for years, and his loss has left a profound void. “I’m Not Ready” is Tim’s way of paying tribute while giving fans an honest glimpse into the healing process.
"Where do I even begin here? A little over a year ago we lost one of our band brothers, Doug Elash. He was one of the original four members of the band and was the greatest guy, so you can imagine how missed he is. This song is a little bit of therapy for the boys and I, and for anyone who has lost someone close a little too soon.. I wrote it not long after he passed with Jeff Coplan and Andy Albert, and needless to say, I love this track. The band and I recorded this one in Hamilton, ON at the famous Grant Avenue Studios. I played piano on it, which makes it special for me, since I haven’t really featured that part of who I am on any recordings to date. Having the boys play on it makes it extra special. I think Dougie would be proud. Hope you dig, “I’m Not Ready." — TIM HICKS
“I’m Not Ready” showcases Hicks’ vulnerability and storytelling at its finest, reminding listeners that even in sorrow, music has the power to connect and heal.
In addition to the song, Tim has released a highly exclusive run of “Team Dougie” shirts. 100% of the proceeds generated from them will be donated to Diabetes Canada. You can find them on his online store.
