The universally notorious aphorism 'Two are better than one' is evident the moment you hear the music of Sons of Daughters.
Having just landed a management deal with RGK Entertainment Group (Tim Hicks/Dean Brody/Corb Lund) this dynamic duo was recognized as one of the top-five bands to watch for in 2015 by Fresh Independence Magazine. In addition to achieving honorable mentions for their infectious, hook-laden track "Hangman" in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition, the band most recently received accolades for their song "Penny" which was enough to make them finalists in the 2015 Unsigned Only Competition. Their song "Drown a Memory" has also made them semi- finalists in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition.
Sons of Daughters creates contagious, highly-marketable, pop-influenced country songs. They have been compared to such notable, commercially-successful acts as Lady Antebellum and while the band approves of this assessment, they liken themselves to a somewhat grittier composite of Little Big Town or Eric Church. Sons of Daughters have drawn enormous praise from music industry elites such as AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson; who was so impressed with their music, it prompted the quote "Your voices together sound like you came from the same womb."
Although Sons of Daughters was only conceived a short time ago, the duo are very well- acquainted with the music industry. Chrystal Leigh was signed to 604 Records/Universal fronting the band Jakalope; the Pop/Industrial brainchild of Dave Ogilvie (NIN, Marilyn Manson, Skinny Puppy). Jimmy Thow has fronted many bands of varying genres and expanded his notoriety as an in-demand songwriter; recently writing songs with Shawn Hook (Hollywood Records), Canadian Country music colleague Rod Black and Vancouver-based Pop band Faber Drive (604 Records/Warner).
Sons of Daughters recently released their debut EP titled Pick Your Poison recorded at Armoury Studios in Vancouver; teaming up with legendary Grammy-nominated Mixer/Producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC/ Metallica/Aerosmith/Bryan Adams) and Juno/CCMA-nominated Writer/Producer Jeff Johnson (Wes Mack/Dallas Smith). The EP is a collection of six carefully crafted songs that each play like a storybook; whether it's the caliginous account of a distraught man declaring his sins to a bartender in "Drown a Memory"; or an escaped prisoner on the run in the adrenaline-inducing "Devil at My Heels"; Pick Your Poison is an instant winner that will have you stomping your feet and singing along to every song. The emotional exclamations of "Mercy Me" sung hauntingly over a faintly Celtic-styled guitar is just one of many magical moments gently woven within the poignant mandolin, exhilarating slide-guitar and harmonica heard throughout the record; which also features instrumental performances by Shaun Verreault (Wide Mouth Mason), Dane Deviller (The Corrs/Ray Charles) and Colin Nairne (Elvis Costello).
Sons of Daughters look to carve out their own spot in the modern Country scene with their unique brand of infectious music; punctuated by swampy guitar riffs, evocative lyrics and flawless vocal harmonies.
